Kelly-ann Smiley

MACP, Registered Clinical Counsellor, Registered Psychotherapist

Kelly-Ann currently lives in Campbell River, BC with her husband, daughter, and their dog Pearl. As part of a military family, she knows the importance of strong social supports within and outside the home.  She's an active triathlete, loves swimming, biking, running, and coffee, and the group camaraderie that the sport brings. She competed in the Whistler Ironman 2015 and hopes to compete again in other local long-distance races. Friends and clients commend her on her excellent personal skills and ability to genuinely connect with people. Through her experiences working with clients of all ages, stages of life, and unique levels of need, she has proven a unique ability to create comfortable therapeutic relationships for all clients she has the privilege of working with.

Kelly-Ann has over 15 years of clinical experience working in different mental health settings and holds an MA in Counselling Psychology. She began her career working with Alberta Health Services, in partnership with the Alberta School Board, providing mental health services for young children and developing capacity-building programs for K-12 age groups. It was her early involvement with this project that sparked her passion for mental health promotion. It also allowed her to work with children, families, and their support networks to develop comprehensive multi-disciplinary treatment plans that addressed an array of mental health concerns. Common themes included anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal ideation, trauma, and family relationships, to name a few.

Upon moving to Vancouver for her husband's work, Kelly-Ann began working with a multidisciplinary team at a mental health clinic that is renowned for its rehabilitative treatment programs for patients who have experienced physical trauma and for creating mental health return-to-work programs. In this out-patient clinic Kelly-Ann worked with the adult population, providing both individual and group therapy. Here she received additional specialized training in traumatic brain injury management, cognitive behavioural therapy, trauma therapy and comprehensive rehabilitation.

Soon after her family was posted to Ontario, Kelly-Ann had the opportunity to provide therapeutic services for a leading children's mental health agency. This position afforded her the opportunity to work in both a community-based mental health clinic and with local school boards to provide mental health services in the school setting. She consulted with the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario and Toronto Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) to best meet the needs of the families she worked with.

Kelly-Ann is thrilled to be launching Madrone Mental Health to meet your unique mental health needs. MMH is a purveyor of the highest quality of virtual mental health services, in the privacy and comfort of your own home.
